Winter Hike Up Carter Dome
Heading up Carter Dome this weekend (1/21/2017). Just wondering if there was any gear advice for heading up there? Crampons, snowshoes, microspikes (we have all 3). Haven't been up that way in a couple months so just wondering if anybody has thoughts on trail conditions. Does 19 mile brook get enough action that it will be pretty packed down come the weekend?
Thanks in advance!!
Josh

19 Mike should be a a paved highway. Really any 4k should be. Microspikes should suffice the entire way. It doesn't hurt to over gear yourself though. I'd rather bring it and not need it when it comes to gear. If you don't bring it you will probably need it.

I'd bring snowshoes and microspikes. I did Lincoln/Lafayette yesterday before the storm and only needed micros. However, here's a link to a trails report from today and they needed snowshoes over the new snow. This trail isn't far from 19MBT and Carter Dome. http://www.netrailconditions.com/nh/vie ... ryid=29335

Re: Winter Hike Up Carter Dome
I'd think crampons would be overkill on most hikes below treeline since there's a good base of snow this year, but as thegibba said why not bring them all just in case? They don't weigh much, and if you decide to visit the much better summit of Hight to actually get a decent view it's a lot rockier, so there a chance crampons could come in handy there too if really icy. Small chance. But a chance.
