Another Hermit Lake Shelter Question
Hello, I am planning on going up and doing Mt. Washington as an overnight backpack with my daughter this coming weekend. We are planning on using the Tuckermine and Lion Heads trails.
Does Hermit Lake Shelter normally fill up close to capacity this time of year, Both times I've been there in early and late summer it has been dead but this is first time going with my daughter and I know there are no other backcountry camping options on that side of the mountain/approach.
Should we be ok just hanging an Ursack bear outside?
Thanks guys

Re: Another Hermit Lake Shelter Question
I don't know about how full Hermit gets now that summer is over, but I would bet Saturdays are still pretty full. I assume you know you have to get a permit from the Pinkham Notch center to camp at Hermit Lake?
You are probably OK with the Ursack if hung properly, but I'm thinking they probably have bear boxes there now for you to use, as most of the White Mountain backcountry sites do, which makes it much easier. If not that, I think they have pre-setup lines to hang from so the food is properly out of bear reach. It can't hurt to give Pinkham's desk a call, they should have up to date information.
