Where are people hiking next weekend? It's July 4th and a long weekend. My wife and I will be on the Bonds!

I will be hiking to and from The junction with the basement path and washing machine to trunk hollow a few times In preparation for a hike in Acadia. I assume about .10 of a mile and 40 feet of gain.

On July 5th I am headed in to the doctor to get a steroid shot in my heel. That will keep me off the trails for a few weeks. In the mean time I've been doing some shorter hikes because it's all my feet can handle at this point. This weekend looks like I'm going to work on some redlining in the Belknaps (something I have been slowly working on for the past few years). Then it's off to the crutches for a while.

Just my opinion, but Ripley Falls is pretty good after a rain or during Spring melt-off. . . but pretty disappointing when it's dry. Of course, you might have a good enough attitude to have a great time no matter what!

A few years back, I stayed at Mt. Guyot shelter on the 4th of July. When darkness came we hiked back up to the top and watched the fireworks go off from all the surrounding towns to the south and the east. No sound because of the distance, but an awesome light show!
