"Authorities say Trottier and one of his sons then got in an argument, and they separated for the last part of their descent. The sons waited for several hours and then returned home..."

Wow, that's all I can say. Really shameful.
Edit: there's another article on bostonglobe.com, saying that the sons waited at the bottom until 9:30 and then went to look for him. Still shameful but not quite as bad as driving home.
