We are thinking of a overnight at Sawyer Pond in Feb or March.
I assume that the road from rt 302 is well packed out after each storm up to the Carrigan Notch Trail. I also assume that we would be breaking trail from the trailhead up to the pond.
Is the section from Carrigan Notch trail to the Sawyer Pond trailhead a snowmobile trail? or should we plan on having to break trail along this section?
Thanks. _________________ Trail Adopter: Lincoln Brook from Owls Head Slide to Camp 13 |

Sawyer River Rd. is a snomo trail, so I doubt you'll have any problems there. The hiking trails are not. According to the WMNF data I've got, the snowmachine trail goes up to the logging clearing below the Captain (well south of Signal Ridge). I seem to recall a snomo trail crossing the hiking trail down low, but suspect that it just a logging road being utilized and not an official one. _________________ Winter hates me.

Maybe...but also maybe not. It was packed out by snow machines when Greg and I did it. But I do remember occasionally in the past where people have found no snowmobiles had been out there since any given snowfall and people had to break it. I think that is the rare occasion, but just be aware. Of course since it has been a couple weeks since any heavy snowfall I would not worry about that.
