I'll be honest, I bookmarked forum.hike-nh.com a long time ago and have pretty much never looked at the home page since. I log in, and with the old icons it was easy to see where new posts had been made and that's where I went. Clicking on "View New Posts" accomplishes the same thing now (this may have been in place in the old version, I just never used it since the icons were so clear as to what was new - the old blue vs green footprints). Personally I'd love to see the footprint icons back at some point if possible/in the plan as they were pretty cool, but I can live either way just fine.

Either way, great job by Chris to get the ancient forum upgraded to the recent version, I can't imagine that was a simple task!

Pretty much all of this exactly.

The site looks nice and updated now.I do miss having the home page have the links to the most recently active posts and the little button that brings you directly to the last post in a thread. This is of course just the start of what is to come. I can't wait to see the final results.

Dingo's post about large pics cutting off the text is also present in mobile Chrome on Android.

Once again, Thanks a lot for your efforts!

Since he wants input. If you notice, you can't go to the last post of any thread. You just go to the profile of the poster. That arrow within a square is not there anymore. Which would take you directly to any last post.

Also of note on chrome on android. When I tap a general subject like "website issues". The browser makes the subject I tapped really small and the rest of the main subjects like " trip reports" remain the same larger size. I have to tap it again to enter the subject. The effect is not present in 64 bit desktop version of chrome or desktop Firefox. It acts normal in these situations.

It sounds to me like some funkiness is present in the mobile stylesheet for the style we are using. I'm reserving judgement until the full new site is complete and up since I bet that will change things ;)

I too will reserve judgement while the bugs are worked out. I'm sure this isn't an easy thing to do. I'm not criticizing anything as Chris has stated it's a work in progress. Just trying to give some user feedback as they process rolls along that may or may not help them out.

 Re: New Forum Installation!
Thanks for the feedback guys. Regarding the Latest Topics on the home page, I'm working on that. It's much more complex than it used to be and sadly I have limited coding skills.

The mobile situation is a bit tougher, because the forum has grown in functionality. As Matt suggests, I'm hoping this will be resolved when the new site design has been completed. Was this not an issue with the old site design?

As for the photos, that one will be toughest to change because each photo posted has a set size. There may be a way to deal with that, I'll have to consult some more knowledgeable people.

 Re: New Forum Installation!
The pictures and text were not an issue before. You could at least scroll the screen side to side to read the text and see the pics. Now it's just like a screen shot. That will be a bit of an issue for many I think.

This looks more and more like a big undertaking. I don't envy you Chris but I'm glad you're taking on the challenge.

What I've found works best for me (besides the old feature which showed the latest posts on the home page) is to always log in, and click on the 'View unread posts' link in the top right area.

Same poor-ish experience with iPhone. I know vBulletin has a mobile style that makes things much easier to use on a mobile device.

Yeah, I'm looking at this now on an iPhone and it's less than ideal.

Less than ideal is an understatement. Pretty much unusable with apple and droid, at least on my iPhone and Samsung note tablet.

 Re: New Forum Installation!
It seems no different on my HTC1 than on my PC.

But, other than this thread by the very regulars, i'm not seeing any activity. Seems like there was more when it was very slow. Too early to judge but it may still be dying. :(
