The first step in redesigning Hike-NH.com is to bring us up to date with current forum software. As some of you may have guessed, on Wednesday I'll be updating the forum! Things will look very similar to what they do now, but the new version has lots more functionality, so it will look a little busy until you get used to it. We use phpBB, so if you have any questions about how to use it, you can get all kinds of information from the User Guide here: https://www.phpbb.com/support/docs/en/3.0/ug/userguide/
If you have any questions, please feel free to PM me.
Thanks in advance for your patience!

Thanks for your efforts Chris! A little part of me will miss the old look and feel, though....sniff sniff.....

I know nothing about any of that but it sounds great. Thanks for all the time and effort. I too will miss the old look but just switched to an iPhone from Droid a few days ago so may as well figure them both out together. Good timing for me.

The good news is that there should be a lot less SPAM and there are a ton of new features. And the look will be very similar to what it is now. Until I do a complete site redesign, which is next.

I too would like to extend my gratitude. I LOVE this place and though I'm with G-squared and rather attached to the "old" look, I will adjust.
So....THANK YOU CHRIS and all others who make this forum work.

Re: New Forum Installation!
The installation of the forum is complete! I expect there will be some hiccups along the way, so bear with me and we'll get through it all. Let me know what you all think!

Re: New Forum Installation!
A couple things, that is unless this is still a work in progress. I was thinking you might make the home page as most forums are these days. And that's to have the list of all the topics the first thing that one sees. Right now, the way it's working for me anyway, is the home page is pretty blank. There's nothing under recent topics. You most hit the http hikenh.forum.com. , in the text, to go to the forum of topics. After picking a topic, to get back to the forum, you have to hit the home tab again. The big green oval forum tab top right does not seem to work any more.
I guess main request would be my first suggestion, if it's not too late. Have the home page be the topics forum.
Edit: I also just noticed that after posting, you don't see your post in the topic you're posting in. It just shows your post by itself.

Re: New Forum Installation!
Things do look nice. Lots of colors and buttons. Need to familiarize myself with how things work now. I did like that the ten most recent posts used to show up on the homepage and now, for me at least, it's blank. Made it very easy to see what was new since the last visit and in one click.

Re: New Forum Installation!
I'll be honest, I bookmarked forum.hike-nh.com a long time ago and have pretty much never looked at the home page since. I log in, and with the old icons it was easy to see where new posts had been made and that's where I went. Clicking on "View New Posts" accomplishes the same thing now (this may have been in place in the old version, I just never used it since the icons were so clear as to what was new - the old blue vs green footprints). Personally I'd love to see the footprint icons back at some point if possible/in the plan as they were pretty cool, but I can live either way just fine. Either way, great job by Chris to get the ancient forum upgraded to the recent version, I can't imagine that was a simple task!

Re: New Forum Installation!
One thing I noticed right away is that large photos, which a lot of us post in threads, are cut off when viewed in Mobile Safari, with no way to scroll to the right. Any text that accompanies them will also disappear off to the right (see screenshot below) Since I use my iPad more than my desktop machine, this could be problematic. I suspect this is something inherent in the software itself though, and not a side effect of the upgrade. So for me, I'll need to remember to post smaller photos to avoid this.
