Why can't I make a new search so soon?
I am curious why the post / search time is so large. I can't edit a post for at least 30 seconds, maybe longer. Likewise, I often read a thread briefly, wish to move on, and opt for the new posts search - often it says "you cannot make a new search so soon".

Is there a reason it is long? Does it prevent spam or abuse of some sort? VFTT, RoT, and a whole host of skiing, fishing, and cycling boards don't seem to have this 'problem'.

Thx,
Tim

I was under the impression that this was to prevent abuse by 'bots' since you can sign up to this site without needing someone to refer you. So, with that being true, couldn't some spammer create a bot that automatically floods posts with spam, without this 30-second wait?

It only takes one post to spam.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_bot

It's essentially a program built to sniff out open web sites, or open e-mail servers, etc., and flood them with spam.

Thanks. Thought it was something like that but even that definition was over my head.

It's a security tool to keep those Bots from overwhelming the web server, similar to a denial of service attack...
