Wow, totally forgot about this thread. I guess it's safe to say I've gotten over my nervousness about winter hiking which is now my fav season as well. And, slightly more informed. 8)

Now can anyone tell me when Everest's winter is? Image

I also have no intentions of doing the winter 48. Someone mentioned a "wintery" 48 and that's more what I'm interested in. I've done much more challenging hikes in late fall or early spring than many of my "official" winter peaks like Pierce. The official list may eventually happen as I love winter hiking and sooner or later the dominos will fall, but I especially like the challenge and adventure of the bigger peaks in winter. So much different than in the other seasons. I really don't enjoy wasting a great winter day plodding up say the Carters or other ho-num peaks just because they're on a list, so they get done on not so great days to go way above treeline.
