Why does one carry a pee bottle in summer? Just so as not to leave the tent at night? I only use one on winter overnight trips.

Winter or Summer, climbing out of a sleeping bag multiple times at night to pee is undesirable. I'm lazy :)

I figured. I was just hoping you weren't going to say you carried it off the mountain because it was bad for the soil or something! :D

I'm not really sure where that dang bird is. It's either in Jimmy's trunk or in the back of CrazyBob's pickup. Either way, it's nice to bring the bird along and set it up outside your tent. Not really a "Chick magnet". but a conversational piece, none the less......

Maybe 5-8 lbs in summer. Probably about 10lbs more in winter. I don't carry much unless i know its going to be a long one. Don't do overnights and if it is, its car camping off some logging road somehere.
