I use them on the flats to propel forward.... i.e. nordic walking.

I use them as a camera mount [EMS Mountain Staffs] for better photographs.

I use them as tent poles for my tarp.

I was going to ask the same question because that's the way I've used my ski poles for 35 years. I just automatically grab my hiking poles the same way. JP
