 Stabilicer help
Given the present trail conditions, I've been using my Stabilicers as the "in between" from bare-booting and crampons.....but I lose a few screws each time out (insert screw loose jokes here).

I have a bag of extras but was wondering if anyone uses silicon or some sort of adhesive to keep them in.

I just did a Cannon/Kinsman trip and by the time I was done I had left about a dozen along the trail....always seems to be the front ones too....probably from stretching/bending my feet that effects those the most.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Bill, I tried Gorilla Glue and thought it worked great after doing a hike and losing 0. But then the next couple hikes I lost 6-8 each time. I gave up on them. I bought a couple pairs of Yak Trax a couple years ago because they were only $5. I think they'd be great for this time of year but I always forget I have them. Could have really used on Pine Bend Brook Tr. Saturday. Had the M'Spikes but didn't want to use them.

How bad is it when you'd risk a fall rather than dull the Spike's?

I just used mine on Lafayette Sunday and didn't lose any. I don't use them much but haven't had a problem with that yet. If there's a way to prevent it I'd like to hear it also.

Can't really help b/c I don't lose any anymore. They all are quite intact while the stabilicers sit in my gear box since I've got the spikes. In the "less-than-spikes-but-more-than-bare-boots" timeframe I step really really carefully.

I just about broke my face into a dozen or so pieces w/the stabilicers and threw in the towel on 'em.

Yaktrax are great...as long as you get them cheap and view them as disposable, especially this time of the year. It is all about what you expect of them...

It seems that once I started repalcing them from originals, they fall out easier.
Might be time to look at the micro-spikes and save these for walking the dog.

Someone else posted that Kittery Trading Post is having a $39.99 sale on Microspikes starting this Friday. Looks like you can order from them online. I'd say it's time to give yourself an early Christmas present.
