Post subject:  Summer Backpacking Trip

Hi All,

I'm looking for some suggestions for a summer backpacking trip. We will probably go out in mid-July to avoid the flies and plan on anything from 5-8 days, 50-70 miles. I'd love to see some peaks and find some lovely swimming holes. A loop would be best but point to point might be able to work if we could arrange shuttles. I'd also like to avoid the AT if possible just to get away from some of the regular crowds. You know, all the usual amazing stuff you want from a backpacking trip. Many thanks!

Most of the good stuff will 1) be crowded in July and 2) be found close to or along the AT. There are a lot of great day hikes not near the AT like Chocorua, the Baldfaces, Moats and a bunch of other stuff on the 52 WAV list. If you haven't heard it it google it and plan hikes around those peaks if you can do it. See if you can link a bunch together somehow maybe? I do get wanting to avoid the crowds but that's going to be really tough in the Whites in mid summer no matter where you go, and it would be a real shame to hike 80 miles and miss the Franconia Ridge, Twin/Bond and Presidential Ranges. Maybe take roundabout trails to get to them, but it were me I'd make sure I hit those spots one way or another and then finish up in the Mahoosucs. Should be quieter up there at least.
