HI all, I have the day off tomorrow, and am heading north to hike. The Baldfaces have been on my list for a while, but I'm curious about the rain. Are the ledges on the Baldfaces similar to Welch/Dickey, where you really want good dry granite? Any warnings about hiking this mountain the day after rain?
Backup plan if the Lafayette Loop (off work in the middle of the week? hell yeah it's an option!)
Thanks folks.

It wouldn't be my first choice after some rain. IIRC there was at least one section just before you reach the upper junction that you had to walk up an open slab.
Edit:. Whoops!

I would advise dry or at least mostly dry granite, yes. There are lots of little ledge steps with semi-funky angles, long moderately angled slab, etc. If things dry out quickly, you'll be fine tomorrow, but I don't know if it will? I would also advise learning from my experience and having non-icy granite, but I think you'll be OK on that regard at least (I'm guessing theGibba meant it wouldn't be his first choice after rain?)

I don't know how grippy the granite is when wet but like the others I would opt to wait until it's fairly dry. Stepped scrambling and some sloping ledge could be tough when slick. It's more hands on than WD.
As for Lafayette, yes, midweek, but a busy vacation week for the US and Friday is Canada day too (their version of the 4th) so many of them have tomorrow and Friday off if not the whole week also. Lafayette, be it the French name or just ease of access on I-93, is a Mecca for Canadian hikers. Brush up on how to say pardon me, coming through, nice jeans etc etc if you go there.

Ledges will be lethal after the rain. You can bypass them on Slippery Brook trail and still get all the open summit goodness.
I was going to do an overnight backpack tomorrow from Saddleback to Crockers. The big storms have forced me to bag that due to the fact that Oberton stream may be impasssible or at least too scary for me. Evans Notch might not be a bad backup plan?

A high pressure ridge is settling in for today - it's gonna be a bluebird views kinda day. That, mixed with the water... I'm abandoning the Baldface idea for today. See you guys on Lafayette - say hi if you see me.
