Looking for intermediate overnight backpacking trail!
Hey all,
My boyfriend and I just moved from VT and are looking for a good backpacking trail! We don't really like designated campsites.. so anything that is remote enough you can just plop down wherever you get tired is ideal. Anywhere in the state is good!

Welcome to the state and the forum. Most state parks and trails on private property only allow camping at designated sites. Some of the state forest have no prohibitions on camping that I know of but you might want to look into that deeper. The White Mountain National Forest is probably more what you're looking for. You can pretty much plop down anywhere you want to except where it's specifically prohibited. You can find those restrictions here...

Welcome! One thing to remember is that flat places with enough space between trees for a tent are premium real estate. So keep an eye out for good places while you're hiking, don't wait until it's almost dark! Hope you have fun!

Better yet, buy a hammock. I wish I had figured that out for stealth camping a long time ago. You can pretty much call it a night wherever and whenever you like.
