 Carrabassett River crossing on AT?
According to the AMC Maine Mountain Guide, the Appalachian Trail's crossing of the South Branch of the Carrabassett River can be "dangerous in high water". I'd like to try and hit Sugarloaf Mtn and Spaulding Mtn sometime soon, and I was wondering what the crossing is like under normal conditions. Is it rock hoppable? Or am I gonna have to get my feet wet?

Thanks in advance!

In previous years, there has been a board (2x10 or so) anchored to the rocks to aide in crossing. I can't imagine it being difficult to cross at this time. The following photos were taken in September, 2010.

We got caught in some pretty heavy rain on our trip. The water can come up fast in that brook valley. If it's there it would still likely be usable to some degree even in high water even in high water. These pictures are only the time it took to do the hike apart.
