4,000 Footer Week August 22-29 at the AMC's Cold River Camp
Interested in some strenuous hiking in the Whites with a group? The week of August 22-29, the AMC's Cold River Camp will have a hike leader devoted to four hikes to New Hampshire summits over 4,000 feet. Selection will be mutually decided by participants at the beginning of that week. Todd Flagg, AMC volunteer, a current Camp hike leader and registered Maine Guide, will be the leader. This is in addition to the regular Camp program and activities. If interested, for more info or to reserve cabin space that week, go to http://www.amccoldrivercamp.org, or feel free to ask me if questions. Cold River Camp's raison d'etre is day hiking. It's a great place with good food, hot showers/flush toilets and a nice lodge for hanging out at the end of the day.

People actually need to be guided up the 4000 footer sidewalks in summer?

Maybe it's southwest Twin or West Osceola? I'd probably need a guide for those summits over 4,000 ft.

Maybe, if it were Trailwrights 4000 footer week, and not the AMC's.

People do indeed feel more comfortable if others can do the organizing/leading/etc especially if they are relatively new to hiking or the area. It certainly must help cut down on the rescue call outs for lost hikers. And Cold River Camp is a beautiful spot. A few of us rented the winter cabin back in November for a couple nights and did some hiking in the area (most notably the Baldfaces). We all really enjoyed our stay there. It also looked like a great spot for families as an alternative to the overly-busy spots in Pinkham and Crawford Notches.

Of course we all know it wouldn't/won't be. . . but it doesn't say it couldn't be!
