Are any of the 40000 not possible as a day trip? For hiker with a "normal" pace of about 1-1.5 mph can you comfortably do each of them individually in one day? Or are some off them remote enough to prevent that.

Thanks

They're all doable in a day, especially in summer. If you mean in winter they can be long days, but I think the majority of people/hikers do not do winter overnight trips and almost anyone with time and desire can bag the winter 48. Some would be a very long day for sure. The Bonds is about 20 miles, Owls Head 18, Isolation 15 or so. At 1 - 1.5 mph you can do the math, but if you are properly prepared/equipped they're just long days.

Thank you . I was thinking about summer trips so they can all be gotten.

Thanks

I am very slow, and we did Owls Head in one day. Remember, finishing the hike is only part of the story, depending on how far away you live. After your long (but enjoyable) day, you may want to catch a few zzzzz's

When I was contemplating "the list" I spent a lot of time wondering/obsessing about whether I would ever be able to get to the Bonds and Owl's Head. The mileage seemed impossible. But I worked up to them and started early and they were no problem at all, really. I may (or may not) be younger and/or faster than you and many do them as overnights, but people much older and slower absolutely do them as day hikes. Honestly, I think most of us agree that these really aren't necessarily even the hardest ones -- I think most agree that Adams is the toughest challenge, as far as that goes. Respect the distance of course, and don't be foolish, but don't be afraid. All they really take is a long day and the "want to."

I doubt you can do any 40000 footer in a day. Actually, I'm reasonably sure there are no 40000 footers, anywhere.
