I too thought it was pretty much perfectly flat for the first few miles, although it looks like it only gains about 250 feet in the first 3 miles. But I suppose 80 feet per mile is virtually imperceptible even when you can see for half a mile in either direction.

Wonder how long before we're pitched a set of gold clubs or some Air Jordans?

Interesting that this graph was brought up right after doing the Bonds so I can see in print just how much of a slog the last few miles of trail are however, not that I needed this to tell me!
