Post subject:  Wildcat E, and D

After too long of a break from my list I decided that a Wildcat ridge hike would be a great way to get back onto the mountains. My original plan was to park at the Pinkham notch AMC, but there were far too many skiers to find a parking spot so I went down to Ellis falls parking lot which was still closed for the season. I arrived at the Ellis falls parking lot at about 9 and started my hike.
The water crossing at the beginning was not a problem at all and I was on my way. The trail was steep and packed with a hard snow layer. I bare booted my way for about a half mile then I put on my crampons. The trail was a lot easier at this point, but the steep pitch made my legs sore very quickly as I was out of hiking shape. I made summit of E at about 11:15 and D by 11:30. I had a quick bite to eat and due to time constraints I decided to turn around. I will have to get Wildcat A from the other side when I bag Carter Dome I suppose. All in all great hike and a wonderful return to my list.

Thanks for posting. I'm doing the Wildcats June 1 and hope the snow and ice will be gone by then. :)

Cool choice to get back into it. How long had it been?

I was at Pinkham this weekend at it felt just like some busy ski place. I couldn't believe how busy it was. I suppose it's a good sign, though. Summer will be hear soon.

Dingo- Is this a special hike you have planned? I ask because you've planned ahead a ways.

It's with a Meetup group (a small one, no more 20-30-40 people for me!). I've got my weekends planned out (pretty much) right through June 15, with a few weekends in there of tentative / flexible plans.

I really prefer small groups, just a few people, but I haven't yet connected with enough folks to have that option all the time. I'm not always wild about the Meetup groups (some groups in particular, but I won't name names ... on the flip side, there's one I really enjoy), but it's a chance to get out and meet other folks.

It would be *cough* cool to meet some of you folks from this forum. :)

Let's do it! I'll check my schedule this evening. Perhaps we can line up a hike together.

It was a great day! I am back at it after about 2 years. I started light and am working my way back up. Did Monadnock, Chocoura, and then the wildcat hike. I am going to be trying the Kinsmans this week I think. Will have to see how the weather is on Sunday. Great talking to you guys. :)

Check out my group if you're trying to avoid hiking with a crowd. I generally keep my groups between 5-10 hikers. I don't understand hiking with a huge crowd of people www.meetup.com/peakbaggers

I just joined your group thank you for the invite. I try and do a variety of solo and group hikes so this will be helpful for trip selection to be sure.

It looks like you folks have a lot of great times together. Very good idea. I have a group I made on facebook, but this looks much more effective.
