Post subject:  Madison via Great Gulf and Osgood Trails

Just wondering if anyone has been up Madison via Great Gulf and Osgood Trails in the past? Most important, are there any big water crossings that would pose a problem to a dog this time of year? I see a few on the lower section of the Great Gulf Trail on the RMC map, but was wondering if they are anything to worry about? I had to turn back on Galehead last weekend and am trying to find a few hikes to do with my dog this time of year that don't have crossings so we can keep working on his quest for the 48. My other option is Daniel Webster Scout Trail which, looking at the map, has none?
Thanks for any help.

We did that a couple of years ago. My memory may be hazy, but I don't remember any river crossings. There was one at the outset of the GGT but it had a bridge. We hiked in at night, so I'm assuming that if there were any dicey crossings they would have stuck out in my mind. I can't recall any crossings between the tentsite and Madison....all I remember is the crazy quad workout our legs got climbing up :)

I've done it up the Madison Gulf and DWS trails. Don't remember any major water crossings either way. MG was a great trail and lots of fun. We then came down the Osgood and it too is an awesome trail, which you might deduce made an awesome loop. I did DWS in late fall and wound up summiting in a whiteout but what I remember of the trail was not spectacular until above treeline. If it were my choice I'd do the other.

Thank you for the replies folks. We ended up trying the DWST yesterday and we made it to the Osgood Ridge Junction, but then the winds turned us away. Oh well, she isn't going anywhere, and we get to go back and try again someday. Water crossings were small and insignificant.
