What is this list?
This all started as a small joke about making our own views based list, one that eventually grew to encompass all of New England. Initially suggestions were taken, then each suggestion was voted on by members here, and majority votes won a peak it's place on this list.

So this is the lists final version?
Not necessarily. Despite the input of several hikers, all of varying levels of experience and exposure to the areas covered by the list, it was recognized that not all potential spots could have been visited and suggested for voting. So we allowed the "rule" that a new peak could be nominated by anyone for addition. This ensures that some future gem will not be left out should it be discovered.

Why do some peaks have "via" routes?
Because some peaks are good already, but made or broken by the route taken, we decided that in some cases we would encourage routes we consider the best that peak has to offer.

Why are there entries that are not summits?
Some places were determined to be of exceeding beauty with the offered views that we decided this would not be a list based solely on peaks.

What were the criteria for choosing peaks/destinations?
We decided that we would exclude peaks on the traditional 4000 footer lists for New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine. However, if certain peaks/destinations were over 4000 feet in elevation, but not on the traditional 4K lists, then they were left for consideration. No col depth rules were considered. If a sub peak had better views than the higher main peak, it got picked. This list rates peaks simply on the excellence of views, and nothing else. Other than that, the only requirement was that the peak/destination chosen have "reasonable" foot access, meaning no bushwhacks would be required, no trespassing, but could include walkable access roads, herd paths or "unofficial" trails.

What is the reward for finishing this list? Is there a patch and scroll?
No, there is no scroll or patch. Completing this list means your reward is having visited some of the most scenic hiking destinations New England has to offer! 8)

I'd kindly suggest removing the "unanimous" off Shaw, Shelburne Moriah, and Success ;)

The Hike-NH 127 doesn't have a very nice ring to it. What can we do about this?! :D

Well, I have a feeling it won't stay 127 very long. If I can get up that Quill Hill in Maine soon I think it may be itching for addition to the list.

Quick count and it looks like 93/127 for me. No surprise that Maine is where my biggest gap is. :D

If you can somehow get the total up to 144, it could be the "NH Gross Hikes". Nah, that doesn't have a nice ring to it, does it? :)
