Katahdin Woods And Waters National Monument
Woo hoo!! Maine has a new National Monument to celebrate the NPS 100th anniversary tomorrow. Katahdin Woods and Waters has a nice ring to it. Hopefully there is some, and will be much more, good hiking to be had there!

I think Kathy should take her 100th anniversary pack and go be the first one to check it out! :P

My last boot camp class tomorrow morning so can't get a full day in. I will however, in honor of this event, visit Rollins State Park. Weirdly enough, I just put my pack in my car because I knew I couldn't waste tomorrow's opportunity to get one more hike in before school starts on Monday since I cannot hike this weekend.

I'll take pics of my pack. 8)

Also, to celebrate the 100th birthday of the NPS admission to Acadia (and all national parks) is free today thru Sunday. You'll save enough to pay for a little extra gas so pack your bags and go!!! :D

Thats awesome! I finished my AT Thru Hike on Wednesday the 24th and to celebrate some, my sister took me to the River Driver's restaurant at New England Outdoors complex near Baxter. There was a giant party going on with a camera crew and all and we were wondering what was going on. Now I know. Thanks for the link!

Well that's pretty awesome too (the thru hike!) so congrats. If you still want more I believe the International AT goes through the new National Monument. Be one of the first to thru hike through the new monument! :D

What has been the locals reaction to this new monument does anyone know? Weren't they attempting to block the creation of a National Park at one point?
