This week we finish up Maine and start on Vermont! Woot!

The Traveler
Tumbledown - Little Jackson
Turner, South
Tunk
White Cap (Sunday River)

Vermont
------------------
Ascutney
Bromley
Burnt Rock Mountain
Equinox
Haystack

I think Tunk is he only one of the Maine peaks this week I have not heard of. Any help there?

Ascutney I am torn. The view platform gives 360 degree views. But even without it you can still get some nice ones from various ledge, but not nearly as good as with the tower. I may just say to heck with it and vote yes there. The other VT peaks are thumbs up from me. 8)

Ooops, I also noticed we have a duplicate in Sunday River/Whitecap which was already voted on. So I guess this is a 9-fer round. 8)

Definite yes on Equinox. Ascutney... well, it seems to be one of the "tower" peaks, and the tower isn't even on the highest point- the true summit is wooded with a gargantuan radio tower. So... I vote no on Ascutney :| .

I got zip on the rest :?

Ascutney has a lot of great viewpoints without the tower, just not from the summit, and actually the tower isn't on the summit anyhow. Since this is a views list (not always from the summit of something) I'm all for Ascutney. I particularly liked Brownsville Rock... http://forum.hike-nh.com/viewtopic.php?t=8552&p=80346

Here's a report on Tunk. I'm in on that one too.

I'm unfamiliar with Bromley, Burnt Rock and Haystack but will probably vote yes from what I have seen googling them. Some help could cement my vote.

Once again I can't seem to find my old photos for Bromley. I will say this, though. It is the only ski area (that I can remember or have been to so far) that had the ski lifts go right to the summit and which provided unaided 360 degree views (or close enough to it). You can take the Long Trail up, but possibly use the ski area too.

I'll see if Greg has any or Bromley. I am sure he does. Good old Google+ seems to have made the bookmark I had to his photo albums disappear, so I am going to have to have him send it to me or see if I can dig it up myself.

I'm an embarrassing 0-fer in these, although Tumbledown has been on my radar and Ascutney has been in play for the right day, but just hasn't happened yet. Hey, having them on a "list" might make them more likely to happen! But for now I have nothing.

Just a quick bump. We are heading into the home stretch! Let's finish this list out with a bang! :D

Well without visual evidence I will go with what I can find with Google and the expertise of those who nominated the places I haven't been. Bromley is the one I can't find much on, but it's a ski resort, so it must have views from somewhere. Of what, I have no idea!

Well, I was totally disappointed in Ascutney so I really can't say yes for it.

Bromley seems to have a pretty open summit area with some closer mountains so I'll go with it.

So I guess yes on all but Ascutney.

Just curious which trail(s) those who hiked Ascutney used?? I was pretty impressed with my route, the views and the hike as a whole, but clearly I'm in the minority.

I'd have to look back but we had at least 3 outlooks on our route. Gerry Falls, Blood Rock and Castle Rock. Maybe I'm just too damned picky 8) , but there wasn't much to see form those.

This is the best from a lookout I got, Blood Rock.

But I still don't get why we eliminated tower views. It's a view and that's what the list is all about.

We (as in me ) didn't. I think just Brian and apparently Spencer are against them. I'm still voting for any tower view I like and if the tower comes down some day I'll change my vote, same as I will if a nice summit of viewpoint gets overgrown.

Yes, that was just me (maybe Spencer too, but don't quite remember.) For me it was just trying to eliminate situations like with Smarts or Green where the towers got damaged and as such no views could be had because you couldn't climb them. But this is not any rule I was imposing. By all means, vote how you like. I knew full well that I was in the minority on this point, and if I was outvoted no biggie. :D

Yes for: Tumbledown, Tunk, Ascutney, Equinox, Haystack

I'll pass on voting for the rest due to lack of proof and laziness on my part to look things up myself

Eh, it's not so much the observation tower. More so the big radio tower blocking off the view to the south :| .
