Where on NOAA are you finding these outrageous wind forecasts?? I see those #s on MWOBS....

Go here...

Then just click on the map in the general area and keep zeroing in on whatever area you want to look at with each new map.

Carter Dome for example

Ahhhhh....I see. Thx

Hmmmm....gusts I can handle. Was up on Madison, in fact, with my first "uplifting" experience with gusts.

Our PC has suggested the same thing basically. Raising the flag in the parking lot if conditions look ominous. But we're still meeting at hike time so that could be a long day. With the heavy rains forecast for overnight and in the AM, any steep trail will most lightly be a stream.

I keep waiting and hoping it'll change, unfortunately it seems to get worse. I'm going to bail at this point, the t-storms and high wind are too much for me, it's disappointing but for the best.

To those who are still planning to head out, best of luck and more importantly be safe. I will have those who lost their lives 15 years ago in my mind and heart tomorrow. Never forget.

As unfortunate as it seems that for the first time in a long string of 9/11 events many summits will be devoid of flags, I do applaud everyone for being smart about it. Peaks are ALWAYS optional, as are flying flags. Looks like even we on Wildcat D are not getting off easy. We had at least 5 people who wanted to tram up, but at this point who knows if that will even be running. I was just grumbling to Jim that, in a summer so devoid of rain that we have drought conditions over most of Southern New Hampshire, suddenly NOW it wants to rain. We dodged a hurricane and it's potential to mess with us. And yet we are done in this way. I hope everyone joins with me tomorrow for giving mother nature the one finger salute. :D

Anyway, no matter where your flags fly tomorrow, or if it all, just remember it is the thought that counts more than the action. 8)

As of right now I'm ready to get there at 8 and prepared to do whatever we are going to do. Be it the hut, the summit, or the parking lot.

Checked the higher summits forecast on the MWObs website, and I think that's enough for me. I really wanted this to work, but like Kris, those conditions are out of my pay grade. Like was said on the 4K forums, Flags is an important event, but not work risking injury or death over. It pains me to do this, but I'm out  .

I'm thinking we may be going with GraniteGuy's plan. If the rain were to stop earlier than flying at the hut is still an option. If it still looks like it will linger heavily through late morning, maybe switch to Pine Mountain.

Let's call for a 9am meeting time and assess from there? The summit is out at this point barring a complete reversal of the fairly consistent all week forecast, but if the heavy rain works its way out maybe we can still get close(ish). If not, plan B it is!

90% chance of thunderstorms at 9 AM is the biggest problem I see.

Maybe an option for plan C. What time is team Kathy thinking of departing? I'm not going up anything in lightning, but if it's after that threat passes (or if it never materializes) maybe the stragglers from our group can join yours (since you seem to have the most available space) if Madison is a total no go. If we all wait out the lightning maybe we could get up Carter Dome and fly a flag for an hour or so at least??

We are keeping our fingers crossed.

We plan to meet at 19MBT at 7:15ish for a 7:30ish departure. I currently have 5 left in my crew, including me. Our plan is to hike up until it either A. gets too stupid or B. we reach the summit. Ideally it's B and we get to fly from noon to 2. We then boogie down and out.

Join us for part, or all. Bring your flag and hoist it alongside mine. Would love your company. And will NEVER EVER EVER let you live it down that regardless of the reasons, you opted to join me on a hike to Carter Dome. AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

If anyone happens to find themselves near Glen Ellis at 8:00 stop in and say hello! Team Wildcat D hopes to have summit tacos and hot dogs, but worse case we save the food for tailgate style after the hike. 8)

If I were driving, I'd be there. But I'm not, and hopefully we will be happily tramping along by 8. We'll be testing out the effectiveness of the newly re-routed 19MBT. 8)

9am at Appalachia. Let's see what we can make of this. No offense to Kathy but if the weather is ok to go up Carter Dome, we should be fine to get to the hut, and it is similar hike time. I intent to fly something near Madison tomorrow, even if it does only end up in the parking lot.
