OK. Madison it is.

It would seem we would be going by Glen Ellis around 8, but I'll have to get the exact details from my chauffeur. :D

I don't think the Madison crew ever decided on tailgate vs restaurant. Tailgate gets my vote. Maybe we can all find a common spot? Or at least post where various groups might be so people can say hi if going by??

 Re: FOT48 2016
Well, I've held out as long as possible and figure I need to make a decision.

Unfortunately I will have to drop out. :(

While I have contemplated several options, none are ideal. I would love to head up to the hut and possibly get a couple red lines along the way but with summiting out of the equation and dogs not being allowed in the hut I don't feel like hanging outside with Marlie would be a good choice. Pine Mountain sounded nice but with a later start the driving time would probably be greater than the hiking time. Tommorow is also my only day off this week and sleeping in sounds slightly better than starting a hike in the rain. Perhaps I will head for something more local.

I wish you all the best of luck and thank you for keeping the tradition going. I will be taking a moment of silence around 9:30 am in memory of those that lost their lives and loved ones during the tragedy 15 years ago.

On a side note, maybe we can reschedule a Hike-NH group hike before the snow flies, although tthat could be any week now. I look forward to hiking with you all again.

 Re: FOT48 2016
We should definitely attempt a hike-nh group hike.

As for team Madison (aka Matt, Peter, myself and maybe Lisa??) maybe tailgating isn't the best option at this point?? Moat Mountain anyone?? I guess we can discuss tomorrow but I don't think I'll bother bringing a grill and food. Probably still bring a cooler though.

Mt. Washington website makes it look even worse than what it said the other night (100 mph on the higher summits, not any specific summit). I'm slow as it is, so it doesn't look good. And I have chocolate chips baking in the oven right now :( . I'm getting up SUPER early and seeing what's on line before we head up. For anyone who is in Jackson tomorrow evening, my co-worker is attending a memorial walk starting by the covered bridge.

Chuck uses this frequently - mountain-forecast.com. Their version is heavy rains and wind chills.

Just raise the flag at Moat Mountain (Brewery)

I'd be in for a Hike-NH group hike. Whitewall anyone? Probably won't get very good foliage this year, but worth a shot for early October perhaps. Maybe good to start a new thread to gauge interest in this.

Thanks guys for trying to make the most of tomorrow. Stay safe and let us know how it goes.

Keep an eye and ear on the sky. A LOT of active lightning strikes headed our way.

Be safe everyone and have fun with whatever we are able to get in.

It's now noon and I see blue sky with a few clouds outside although quite breezy. I'm kicking myself in the ass for not at least heading north and seeing what happened. Hope you guys get to fly the flag at the hut and stay somewhat dry.

We had a down pours from about 9:30 - 10:30. More and more blue skies as we ascended. Great by the time the flag was up. Even nice enough for the black-hawk fly-over.

Image

We could see about 12 or so 4K's. pretty good. Super-zoomed them all. Only one I can see a flag on is Carrigain. Osceola was the closet. Could see people so I assume there was a flag. Forgot how F-ing steep Passaconaway is from the Kanc. once you start to climb. :?

Team Wildcat D hunkered down about 1/3 of the way up when lightning started lighting up the sky. Driving rain and gnarly wind with some severe gusts made us question our sanity more than once. But the rain let up, the skies cleared and we got our flag up (well, draped over the side of the tower as the wind bent our pole during set-up  ) on time. Without the gondola running we saw a whopping dozen people at most. A couple SoBo thru hikers (we offered hot dogs to one...who turned out to be a vegetarian  ) and the biggest group as we were setting the flag up and who got caught on the ridge around Wildcat A when the lightning moved in. Minus our group, total who got to see our flag today....maybe 5 people. Oh well, it is the thought that counts. 8)

We made it to Madison Hut after waiting out the lightning in the AM. So, late start, but flew the flag from 2:30 - 3:30 or so. Better late than never right?!
