Finally, someone said Washington. That's not it though.

I thought someone would get lucky and get this right out of the gate. Need a hint yet? 8)

I feel like there should be a foul on this one too. It's a polished metal rod sticking two inches out of the rock. That's the clue, and its exactly the same in text as it is in the photo. If the photo doesn't help solve the puzzle, I think you've missed the point of the game.

The last thread, by hiker0200, I think nailed the spirit of this game. Each picture contained at least one unique identifying quality making it not-impossible. Also, a good mix of obscure locations and familiar ones shown from obscure points-of-view.

my guess....this photo was taken in the back yard of a metal shop in Nashua.

Well, to the educated White Mountain hiker, it is obviously a stainless steel survey station pin from Bradford Washburn's surveys in the 1980's. So that immediately narrows it down tremendously.

I have no idea, I don't think it's Sam Adams.

Well, if Mr Washburn installed more than one of these pins, all we can do is take a wild guess from a 'tremendously' narrowed down list. Even if he only installed two in his entire life, we're guessing with 50/50 chances.

You could just say "stainless steel survey pin" and not post the pic and you'd still have the same 'tremendously narrowed down" list from which to guess. The pic should help solve the puzzle, shouldn't it?

Not trying to de-rail the thread or anything. But there doesn't seem to be much hiking discussion going on here, and this is the third such thread in a row. All I'm saying is that if we're gonna play this game, let's keep it clean and competitive.

Then how'd you get the answer? But to be fair, I did say the answer can not be in picture form. Disqualified! 8)
