Good grief. Enough is enough.... Leave things as they were. Is that so hard for some people? Leave no trace? That's a rather large trace to leave...

I will say this about Stinson...it might not......MIGHT not....be hikers. Since the sno-mo trail goes all the way to the summit it could be the local snowmobile club, or someone who is a 'biler but not affiliated with a club, doing it. Greg and I once ran into a guy doing Sugarloaf and Tumble Dick who said they had just cleared out a big view panorama that summer, though said panorama was on private land that they had permission to do said clearing.

At least get rid of those stumps!

The only reason I'm opposed to this is, well, basically where does it end? Someone randomly deciding to clear out an overgrown view, as much as I like the views, just isn't right.

I would however be 100% behind the forest service "maintaining" many of the historic viewpoints and summits out there the way the National Park service does.

http://friendsofacadia.org/news-publications/friends-of-acadia-journal/preserving-acadias-historic-roadside-views/

Without clearing, logging, fires etc most of the views we enjoy would never have been there to begin with. And without maintenance, 50 or 100 years from now the Mount Hale effect will reclaim many if not most of them. I don't see a lot of people hiking wooded humps with no views unless they are on some list and they "have" to.
