NH Fish and Game: Mass. Hiker Missing
http://patch.com/new-hampshire/concord- ... mostrecent

Investigators in the department are looking for Claire Cocuzzo of Westwood who hasn’t been heard from since Oct. 5.

The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department is asking for the public’s help finding Claire Marie Cocuzzo, of Westwood, MA, who had planned to hike in the White Mountains between Oct. 5, and Oct. 10, 2015, but has been reported missing.
A family member told the department that she hasn’t been heard from and reported her missing when she did not return home, as planned, last week. She was expected to return to work but didn’t, according to her employer.
Cocuzzo reportedly planned on hiking the Mount Garfield Trailhead to Bond Cliff and then back which officials say is approximately 26 miles. The family member stated that it wasn’t uncommon for her to take on major hikes.
Cocuzzo is 64, with gray hair and brown eyes. She is 5-feet, 2-inches tall and weighs about 120 lbs.

Saw that story this morning. Bethlehem isn't where you'd park for a hike into the Pemi so something sounds suspicious unfortunately. We heard a (the??) helicopter yesterday, didn't know there was a search going on. Hope she turn up somewhere safe. It has pretty cold at higher elevations lately.

Bethlehem is exactly where you'd park to hike from Garfield to Bondcliff. From the second article it sounds like an unfortunate accident. Seems like there have been quite a few incidents the last several weeks.

Thanks for the correction. I would have sworn the Garfield Trailhead was in the town of Twin Mountain, and now I find out there is no town of Twin Mountain. It's just a village in the town of Carroll. That's my new thing learned for the day.

Are hearts go out to her family.

I doubt we will ever get the whole/correct story. Mainly because of where they say she was found. And where they said she started from. Unless she didn't want to redo Garfield Ridge and thought the road walk would be better. Really tragic if that's the case.

"Fish and Game officials said the body was found in the river about 2 miles from the Galehead Hut."

That puts her on the Gale River Tr. The only significant crossing now is of Garfield Stream. Image

Which is easily rock hopped in most circumstances. If she crossed Friday during the heavy rain, that might explain things. Plus she was doing a 5 day backpack so her pack would have been darned heavy.
