The park rangers at the beach told us the same thing Joe when we asked if we should call that marine mammal hotline. Also told us he'd be fine and was just resting and stay 50 feet away.

I found a Cooper's Hawk scoping out some birds in my neighbors yard. Its real convenient of her to have a bird feeder. I end up seeing more wildlife here than when out in the woods!

Must be birds of prey season! The resident Snowy Owl of Rye Harbor is back this year. These are a week or so old, maybe two I can't remember. But it's back and hanging around the marsh area again.

Re: Post Your Photos of Wildlife While Hiking
So, since the trail around the point of land at Rye Harbor state park is listed in the AMC Nature walks we'll consider this one from a hike. If you didn't see it on the news this is kind of sad but a humpback whale floated into shore there yesterday and the tide left it up on the beach today. 18 years old, 40 tons, 45 feet long and named Snowplow. If you think a roadside moose draws a crowd you should see what a dead whale can do! Now for the wildlife shots and the cruel reality that is mother nature...

Yesterday she floated up near the park...

This morning she was beached...

This evening high tide was right up to it but she's not going anywhere. Drawing quite the crowd!

This is going to be an interesting wedding if they don't figure out what to do with it by this weekend

They're planning to do a necropsy tomorrow when the tide is out, and trying to figure out what to do with the body after that. The marine biologist said it could be anything from sinking it at sea, to getting the bones for a museum to dumping it in a landfill depending on who wants to do what with it and how much money they have to get it done. Sad, but interesting, and possibly a once in a lifetime experience.

Not everyday u get to be up close and personal with a dead whale, despite it being sad, morbidly fascinating to see what ut looks like close up.

My wife and I went on a vacation to Canada recently and did some hiking in Fundy National Park (New Brunswick) and Cape Breton Highlands National Park (Nova Scotia), among other places. We had a few good wildlife sightings there:

1. A beaver from close range in the pond next to the Caribou Plain Trail in Fundy National Park:

2. A bald eagle seen while hiking on Deer Island (New Brunswick). This was one of six or seven bald eagles we saw on this trip:

3. An awesome bull moose just off the Skyline Trail at Cape Breton Highlands National Park:
