Something new ;-) Pitcher & Champney Falls, Plus 12/3/16
EDIT: Hopefully corrected images for all.

I Had originally planned to hike just to the falls with Becky then just head into North Conway to shop
and grab a bite to eat. She had prior commitments so I still did the falls but headed up to what I call,
(since it's on the same ridge but unnamed), Kid Sister. 8) It's basically a ledgey goodness peak with
very little prominence. Found it, well saw the short herd path to it, a few winters ago.

Started with the usual stop. :)

Decided to turn around for a change.

Next up the falls. Pitcher had it's usual light flow. Actually, I'm not really sure what's normal for either
of these 2.
Image

Image

Champney falls has much more flow.
Image

Image

Up until this point spikes were not needed. But about .3 mile about the falls there was enough ice
to warrant them. If only to make every foot placement a calculated decision.
Image

Image

So i hit the height of land on Champney Brook Tr. and the herd path to Kid Sister. This was it the first time.
Image

Image

This was Saturday. Snow squalls pretty much ruined the views.

Image

The same but a little sunnier when I was headed back.
Image

The first time I only stopped briefly where you pop out of the woods. This time I explored the entire bump.
This is what is referred to as the First Sister and Chocorua on the right.
Image

A lone hiker stands triumphant on Chocorua. :)
Image

Heading back to the whole in the woods for my descent.
Image

Image

I was first on trail and saw no one on my ascent. There was one pair of tracks once I rejoined Champney
Brook Trial but they were ahead and out of sight since they did not make the detour to the falls.
On the descent, I passed about 6 groups. Decent day and hike overall.

Strangely enough I couldn't (and still can't) see them on my iphone, but just checked on the pc and they're there. May have something to do with the different browsers (Safari vs Chrome). Will have to look again later now that I know I can see them.

They show up for me on my android (Nexus 5x ruining Android 7.1) and my PC using chrome. Perhaps it's because I'm logged into Google. I dunno. Great pics as always. I love the triumphant hiker enjoying himself on Chocorua.

I only just finally visited Champney Falls a few weeks ago. It was flowing about the same as you got. Still pretty nice. Greg and I are about to see a whoooooole lot of this trail in the coming years.

I too like the triumphant hiker. Funny without the pictures I had no idea where you were talking about, but with them it's obvious. About a dozen trips up this trail for me over the last 20 years and I only "discovered" this spot in February. :? Definitely a nice one.

OK, here's your first order of business since the trail is basically in great shape. This is a little before the falls loop.
This section of trail, about 20', is a stream.
Image

The problem is this stone wash-bar diverting run-off needs to be built up. A good 8" higher and tighter to do the
job I'd say. So get on it. :P
Image

Also, am I naming these falls wrong? I always assumed the wispy one in the gorge was Pitcher. I that wrong?

You are actually pretty spot on on the waterbar thing. Greg says the woman from the USFS mostly needs us to concentrate on the waterbars up higher. Apparently they do a lot of work training on the lower part of that trail, which is why it is in such great shape. As far as I could tell, over the whole length, there wasn't much that needed to be brushed. So not too bad I think. 8)
