A friend needed Ike for her list, so I just had to help her, right? What's a hiking friend to do??
The hike was Oct 30th. The day dawned chilly, but clear. We arrived at the trailhead around 8. Not much company

Sure was nice to hear and then see the water flowing again. I didn't realize how much I missed it.

Just over the crossing

Then things changed. Temps dropped, clouds obscured the blue skies and the mists moved in.

We hit the ice soon after that pic, and spiked up just below the seep. It got pretty sloppy with the water running beneath, through and over the snow. Made from some tricky footing, but we made it through ok.

In no time we were at the jct with the Crawford Path, no views to be had beyond a few feet in front of us

We took a break in the little sheltered area before the pond, grabbed a quick snack and layered up. It was pretty crazy. I have to say the hike to the summit from there put me in the most extreme conditions I have ever been in. I never felt unsafe, I never felt cold, I never felt like we had no business being there but MAN! it was intense. No time for pics, we quickly tagged the summit and headed back out of the exposure to take a lunch break.

All in all a freakin' fantastic day. LOVE these mountains and all they have to offer. I made it up again a few days ago and once flickr decides to cooperate with me again and I have the patience I will upload those pics.

I like this last shot.

I also love the colors of the alpine zone this time of year. I dunno why, those purpleish/browns with that mossy stuff thats white and crunchy look nice to me.

Thanks Peter. I too love the alpine colors in the shoulder season. It was even more cool ten days later
