Eagle Pass, Greenleaf Trail
No summit, but none intended. I wanted to get to the pass, but knew I didn't want to be there while it was raining. The rocks are slick enough when it's not raining. By the time I got my morning stuff done and had decided I wouldn't mind driving time that equaled trail time, I figured I had an hour each way. Pulled into the tram lot just as it cleared in the notch Got past the first obstacle ok Made the ledges at almost exactly one hour. View back towards Cannon I know the trail continues past here, though I have never been beyond this point. Couple of mins for a quick snack and a few pics and I was on my way back. Not a bad way to spend two hours on my last day before school starts. I plan to get back here once the snow has filled in all the space between the nasty roots and rocks on this trail.

Eagle Pass is a cool spot in itself. There's a pretty easy way to the top of that ledge on the right that gets you this. Next time.

Ooooooooooooooooo. OK. I'm on it. But probably not NEXT time as that will most likely be this winter. Might be a little tricky then. Thanks for the idea Joe.

Say the word and you could probably get Greg, Joe or I (maybe even all three of us) to take you up to the summit of Eagle Cliff. The views from that are even more cool! Brian

Re: Eagle Pass, Greenleaf Trail
Nice. I did this exact hike anout a month ago. It was beautiful everywhere but in the notch. It started raining halfway up and i got soaked. I didnt realize the first part of that trail SUCKED SO BAD with all the rocks and roots, reminded me of hiking lowes path, frankenstein and wildcat trail. Miserable. The upper part was better. Neat area though.

Re: Eagle Pass, Greenleaf Trail
Last year, on a lazy day, we took this up to Greenleaf Hut, where we ate soup on their deck and then I took a nap! Good place for it, too!

Re: Eagle Pass, Greenleaf Trail
Love Eagle Pass! Definitely a not-so-visited place, and it's always nice and cool in there (at least compared to the rest of the area).
That said, the Greenleaf Trail between there and the Greenleaf Hut is kind of ho-hum, but that route is a good one to take to Lafayette if you want to dodge crowds.
