Alpine Garden The Easy Way. 6/4/16
Not too much to say about this one. I decided to give the Alpine Garden another
go last Saturday. To be able to give more time to taking in the whole above
treeline experience, I drove the auto-road to close to the 7 mile marker and the
Huntington Ravine trail-head. I was joined by Becky and our friend Desi (djames64).
The hike was basically up and over George to the west side then circled around ending
in the Alpine Garden. Finishing on the last .3 miles of the Huntington Ravine Tr.

This is the route and the book stats.

Totals
Distance 5.55 mi
Time 3 hr 37 min
Elev Gain +1686 ft
Elev Loss -1699 ft
Elev Change -13 ft

This was a great way to avoid the bugs and heat. Very cool and very breezy all day.
Not to mention the flowers. Which were non-stop the entire route.

Looks pretty awesome. After you mentioned this a couple days ago I had my Thursday route all planned to do a similar loop with a hike up instead of drive. Now it looks like it'll be covered in mixed precip, cloudy, below freezing and windy up there. Another year I'll probably miss the Garden. Thanks a lot Mother Nature!!

Oh, and nice choice of MDI sticker on the car. 8)

  Thank you for sharing your nice birthday trip with us   !

Hope the flowers last through Sunday and it doesn't rain then. GG - weather can turn on a dime. Maybe it will for you.

Pictures are awesome; I've gotta get up there one of these years to see the flowers. And this is a great idea for seeing a lot of terrain without having to schlep up from the base.

I've never driven up the auto road. I have to get up there before the traffic jam starts in the peak season.

This was my 3rd time driving it and only the first I didn't have idiots on my a$$ the whole way down. So yeah, the earlier the better I'd say.

Try one of the three sunrise drives they have every year. Probably a lot less idiots then too. The first one is coming up on June 19th.

That's funny, we were talking about the sunrise or sunset drives on the drive down. Simple for me, no way will I drive that road in the dark.

Can someone get the memo to Mother Nature that summer starts in 2 weeks and I'd have liked to visit the Alpine Garden tomorrow!

And Sunday I think there will be thunderstorms, at least in the morning.

This reminds me of when my parents came down to DC (from PA) to visit me in college. I was excited because the cherry blossoms were blooming big time and they would get to see them. About two hours before they arrived, we had major winds and that was that!

I'm glad at least one of us got to see the garden this year.

That would have been crazy. Crazier if you were going up via the Wamsutta Trail. Sadly it seems it would be even more crazy to follow through with that plan now.
