 Mt Waumbek June-04-2016
We came up Starr King Road off of Route 2. The end of Starr King is very bumpy and would be challenging with a sedan with normal ground clearance.
Started up Starr King Trail around 10:30. It was about 80 degrees at the base, and sunny. The trail was dry. The black flies were out but with bug spray they left us alone. The spring at 2.1 was running and could be used to get water. We summited Starr King and walked another 50 yards to the site of the former shelter. We stropped there and ate lunch with great views of the Presidentials. We continued to Mt Waumbek. It was a quick mile to the summit. Heading past the summit 100 yards or so down the Kilkenny Ridge Trail to a view point, which provided great views of the Presidentials. It was clear, and hardly any wind.
We returned back to the car at about 2:30.

That's a better view than I had from Starr King! Looks like a nice trip. If I go back to Waumbek, I gotta check out the look just past the summit, on the Kilkenny Ridge Trail.

Trees were defiantly taken down on Starr King and on the Kilkenny Ridge Trail to make the view. Sadly I have seen this on too many summits now.

Wait. W-H-A-T? He (assuming corndog is a guy)gets kind words w/no razzing b/c he's a new guy? WTH? If I'd posted a tr for Waumbek you'd be all over me.

CD, good for you. I for one like Waumbek. That mile between Starr King summit and Waumbek summit is one of my favorite miles in the whites. It's a great winter hike too. Usually the gray jays do not disappoint up there. Got this shot this past winter

Well you should know better than to hike Waumbek again. I will say the woods between Starr king and Waumbek were pretty awesome though. Just not worth the 3 hours and change to get there from my door for the 2 hours and whatever to do the hike. Anyway. Keep up the TRs. Welcome to the forum!

Kathy, Kathy, Kathy. I've said many times I enjoy hearing people's first impressions of the 48, or any new to them hike/trail/place. It's the mentality to return to about half of that junk with so many other great hikes around that mystifies me, and therefor makes me razz you and others. I poke fun at things I don't understand! :D But besides that, I always say glad you had a good hike and enjoyed yourself even if it's not my cup of tea. I know you can take it. I don't know about carndog. Don't want to scare off the new blood by having something taken the wrong way. If he posts another report on Waumbek I'll be sure and let my true feelings on the mountain shine through!

I didn't even notice that. Makes carndog an elder statesman around here. Only regular poster who's been here longer would be New Hampshire/Brian I think. Also makes him one of the least efficient posters ever! :D

Yes, I have been around for a while. Mostly just read.
I should contribute more especially when I can (hopefully) help someone out by posting trail conditions.
