 South Kinsman Overnight 5/14
the Reel Brook Trail was a nice easy walk for the first 2 miles, the third mile was a little more challenging and brings you to the Eliza Brook Shelter. The shelter itself is in great shape; re-built in 2010, bear box, 2 large tent platforms for "group camping" and 3 other platforms for smaller tents. We continued another 2.5 miles on the Kinsman Ridge trail which was very wet/muddy and very steep in some parts. The summit of South Kinsman offers 360 degree views and we had a nice clear day. We made our way back to the shelter, ate dinner, & started a small fire. Overall, this is a really nice overnight option. The hike to the shelter is easy and you can drop most of your weight there before tackling the harder part of the trail up to the summit. There are also a ton of great waterfalls and swim holes along this route, so if you go during the hot summer months I'd definitely bring extra swim shorts and a towel.
