2 More of the Acadia 26 in the books - 5/1/16
Since this one is a bushwhack I won't post much info on it. But on Sunday Morning before we left town my wife and I did one more hike, adding McFarland and Youngs Mountains to her Acadia 26 list, bringing her total to 23/26 now. This was the second time I've done this hike, and the easiest, because someone took it upon themselves (I assume) to flag the route, which was already fairly obvious. Little cairns and A LOT of flagging tape. Kind of took the fun out of it, since the hike itself isn't spectacular, the fact that it is in the un-trailed part of the park, for those who like that sort of thing, is unique. Hopefully if the park service didn't have a hand in this they remove the flagging and make it at least a little bit of an adventure. Anyhow, we did the hike before leaving town. 2.5 miles of it with 800 feet of elevation and some decent views but nothing great by Acadia's standards but still an enjoyable hike and always a quiet escape from the crowds in season I'd guess. A few pics...

Then the flagging starts :(

Rather excessive I think

Small cairns too

After that we went to the town beach and looked for sea glass. It always has good stuff there. Then we went to the visitors center so I could get myself an Acadia Centennial patch for the old backpack. I decided against the National Parks Service pack for now, since it's just celebrating the 100th year of the government organization and not the actual parks themselves. Maybe I'll have a change of heart, who knows, but if you have one and want some NPS Centennial gear there is no shortage of stickers, hats, bottles, patches, pins etc at the park store!

More sea glass for our collection! :D

Stairs to the most unaccessible visitors center ever. 53 of them!!

And thus concludes another great trip to Acadia! :D

Looks like a great few days in Acadia, and some great ideas for hikes. It's been way too long since I've been there.

If I knew 100% for sure the park service had nothing to do with the flagging I actually would have cut it all down on the way back. But on the off chance they're putting in a trail I left it alone but did send them and email about it. Besides taking a little route finding fun out of the hike it's really making quite a herd path. Basically as easy as a trail to follow now. It wasn't hard to begin with two years ago when I first did this hike, but now it's plain as day.

Surprisingly they didn't have the pack. Neither did my local EMS. Must be so popular it's sold out everywhere! :D
