I need a new shed and I heard there's some nice one's there. 8) Actually,
moose antlers. :)

I've been doing fine with the ice on the 4K's but that's getting old. I didn't feel like
dealing with it this past weekend. I've been wanting to get back into some great
moose stumping grounds so the glades below Sable Mtn., some of the best, it would
be. I was hoping to spot some good sheds for someone I know that collects them. And from
what I've heard, he could build a shed out of what he has.
I might add that I do not carry them out for him. But merely let him know the basic
location and let him do the lugging. :D

So the plan was up the BCT to the Slippery Brook Trail north, to the junction with
Eastman and Baldface Knob, and start the whack from there.

First stop, you guessed it. 8)

Next, another must in this area.

And the third must, Emerald Pool. Sure can see why it's called that.

Even though the glades and shed hunting were the main objective, I had other things
to check out. One was a ledge in the glades that I thought would yield some views. That,
and a huge, old clear-cut. I also was hoping to hit either Eastman or Baldface Knob on the
way out. Which, and very wisely I might add, decided to hit first.

From there, you can clearly see the clear-cut I want to hit on the southern flanks of Sable Mtn.

Bump! These woods s*ck! 8)

Gotta love stick season on a bushwhack. :D

I stink at the whole shed hunting thing. The biggest reason I guess is I don't look any further
than in my general path. This is the best I found and I'm not sure it's even worthy.

Made my way to, and found the ledge I was looking for. Not great, but it is unique.

On to the clear-cut. Sweet! Eastman where I spotted this from.

Sable Mtn. and South Baldface.

Now it was just about another .5 miles of whacking to get on the south section of the
Slippery Brook Tr. to head back. And once there is why I said hitting Eastman first was a good
thing. Even though these were awesome woods, there's still a lot of tricky footing to deal with.
Boulder fields, blow-downs and such. Which for me now, it seems, is quite taxing. The climb back to
the height of land on trail was really rough. I was moving on fumes near the end. :(

This hike was somewhere in the neighborhood of 9.5 miles on trail and about 2.5 bushwhacking. And since
I cleared it before I checked, I estimate the elevation gain was around 3200'.
Carrigain last week seemed easier. :? And my knee is telling me so. Image

Listen to your knee. Hopefully right now it's just whispering...don't let it get to a shout.

I still want to know the story of that cast iron stove we found out there years ago the first time we were out there doing Sable and Chandler! Middle of nowhere....no road, grown in or otherwise.....no logging camp ever reported there.......the story it must have!

Evans Notch is such a spectacular chunk of real estate even a whack to a lack-luster 52WAV, a swampy field and some trees with a ledge looks great! :D Love the pics you're putting out with the DSLR these days. Don't mess up the knee now that you've got the hang of the thing.

That shed looks like one we found two years ago. Ill have to look through my pics to see. Might have to go back to the area and look around myself since the road is open now.

That figures. I checked every day last week, because that was what I wanted to do.
