Hale via Firewarden's Trail- hale yes!
We got most of the old band back together for a fun hike to Hale on a beautiful spring day in the Whites. Petch, Crazy Bob, and Jorge joined me in the fun, only missing Jimmy Dean and the group would have been complete.

Nice little herd path leads to summer trail head

Next landmark is the little tree in the middle of the trail, signals the turn for FWT

We encountered patchy ice (avoidable) up to about 3300 feet at which times put on the micros. Along the way, Petch took a digger and landed pretty hard on his backside. Just before summit, Jorge switched to full crampons, the rest of us carried on with micros.

Breaking through to the summit. You can see the summit marker on the rock in the middle of the two people, not sure I'd ever seen this before.

I put on my crampons for the descent, Petch & Crazy Bob stuck with the micros. What ever happened to Leave No Trace? Something else I'm not sure I ever noticed before.

Pretty uneventful descent. On the way home we had to stop for the tourist pics. Colors were brilliant on this day

All in all a great day in the woods with some good friends!

Nice to see that those guys are still alive and kicking. So, has Henrietta retired? :)

I remember thinking that was an odd spot to put the survey marker last time I was there.

Yes nice to see Petch is still alive. After he hiked with us on FOT48 he disappeared from the site. Coincidence?? :)

We often talk about the long list of folks that have hiked once or twice with us and then disappear. Then there are also those that continue to show up every time we go out........
:D

Happy to see Petch is back in the woods! If I remember correctly, work was extremely busy for him last year. Good to see you guys had a good day for it, too!

I've seen those barrels many moons ago. I thought I read that there was a Fire Warden's Cabin near where those barrels are.

Yes, I'm still alive......I go hiking about 3 times a year whether I need to or not. Wow, even Salty it starting to post trip reports? I have been away too long.....

Good to see you guys are still contributing to the site.

happy trails
Petch

Petch lives!

Yes, I'm pretty sure those barrels are from the fire tower days, either the tower itself or some sort of nearby cabin? There's another artifact off the Lend-a-Hand Trail a short ways down from the summit:

(edit: whoops a month old TR. Guess I'm one of those guys... :( )
