Actually there is another way to keep your hands warm. Place them between two pillows!

Wrong, as usual.

It really is dead. =/ and not much use as a trip report.

BrianL, I think you and John Anderson would have got along famously. Not simply cataloging the Whites in their factual length, step, width, his book is "A history-laden guidebook to the White Mountains of New Hampshire that endeavors to be reassuring to the resident and to the expert, informative to the stranger, and convincing to the skeptic."

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like his whole book is online, but I'm sure if you visit a local library, they could find you a copy.

I like, "The Path continues under the frowning bulk of Eagle Cliff..."
or
"The Pemigewasset Valley stretched out below like a part of Paradise, and the half cloaked peaks of Lafayette and it's adjoining mountains commanded the horizon."
or
"Mr. Wards philosophical acceptance of defeat at the hands of the elements was touching, but not altogether convincing to one, frailly typical, perhaps, of all climbers, who rail at the unfairness of those who struggle up a peak only to find themselves shut out form the striking features of the view. An amateur can only attest to the profundity of curses laid upon those thick vapors which have, upon times, swirled up the gorges of the Alps to hide the Jungfrau, or the Matterhorn, or suddenly dropped imprenetrably before Mount Washington. You may as well pretend that it makes no difference if the curtain does not go up on the play. Decorous tourist will put the best face possible upon their disappointment, but let them feel that disappointment. If their tempers are bad, let them assure themselves in advance of a clear day."

For some reason this classic FNM song reminds me of this thread.

So how was crossing the ridge? I didn't see any pics of it on your photobucket. Were the ramparts icy?

It just seems odd to me that someone who brought a dedicated camera up there didn't take a single pic of the ridge while being on it.

Sir, if you're calling me a liar, then let's just arrange a meeting so I can simply shut that wood chopping accident that you call a mouth for you.

I went up the OBP and came down the Falling waters trail, as described in the original challenge. If you have anything to say about that, I want to hear it come directly out of your face, so tell me where I can find you.

Moving on....

I must now come clean, admit I'm a phony, and hang my head in shame. I retrospect, I can admit that perhaps I was not supremely proficient in the use of my gear. Looking back, I could have used a few practice hikes on Tecumseh before I took on the magnificent challenge that is Franconia Ridge.

Without going into great detail, I will just say that my shell coat (which was new for this hike), doesn't seem to be entirely compatible with my camera. Just a funky sizing thing that makes it a tremendous pain in the ass to get the camera in and out of the pockets. Had I wasted an entire day on the most boring hike in the world, I could have learned this ahead of time, and devised an alternate camera toting solution.

So I guess I just wasn't ready for winter hiking on the franconia ridge huh? Had i known that I would be 'cross-examined' like this, I might have made more of an effort to stop and retrieve the camera from my pack. But in case there is any doubt, I snapped these with my cell while I was up there. They just didn't make it into my photobucket, because they weren't on the camera's memory card.

Thanks for watching another episode of Law and Order: Backcountry Justice

I have my own account. Why would I drag someone else's good name into any of the dumpster fires every thread you get involved with turn into? I'm guilty of engaging you, and have tried not to, but apparently you are just looking for somebody, anybody, to fight with. Even if I did use someone's account I think the moderators can trace ip addresses and such for posts. He isn't me. Neither are all the other people who don't like your online persona.

Nobody has to call you a liar. It's been proven repeatedly. I'm sure you will just chalk it up to hyperbole yet again, but maybe rather than repeatedly threatening violence against other forum members you should just, well, take a hike. If you don't have anything constructive to actually contribute to the forum.
