 South Engine Hill 1/2/2016
Greg and I hiked to South Engine Hill on Saturday, I figure people might be interested in the trail conditions for Rocky Branch Trail (from the North trailhead). The trail was well packed to the height of land, we completed the entire hike in microspikes. There were spots that had standing water... not quite frozen over yet, but easy to negotiate and keep feet dry. Even off trail snow was fairly firm, a few deeper spots but mostly mid-calf depth at ~3000 feet. We bumped into a few people who attempted Isolation back at the trailhead; it sounded like the "Engine Hill Bushwhack" (shortcut through the glades) was not quite tracked out or was difficult to follow, they turned around after a few hundred feet.

Nice day to be out, some wind and light flurries for most of the day, not too much for views but things were clearing as we got back to the car. It was good to be back out on the trail after nearly 2 months off  Here is a link to some photos: ... directlink
