 Ripley Falls 9-11-2015
We decided to take some time off, come up north now that the tourist season is over and have some fun. We got here Friday afternoon , setup the RV had dinner and thought it would be a great time to visit Ripley Falls, knowing it wouldn't take long to hike it. We had never been here, but heard it was away busy, so we were hoping to see it without the crowds. We lucked out and had the whole place to ourselves. 8)
At the top of Willey House Station Road there is a parking area for the Ethan Pond Trail. The trail leads over the railroad tracks, but before we headed that way we went down to see what Avalanche Brook looked like. The support for train bridge going over the brook was a cool site to see.
After crossing the tracks, we checked out the remains of the old Willey House Station, then started up the trail. The Ethan Pond Trail is part of the AT, so it is blazed in white. There are flat spots and a couple so what steep sections, but overall the whole hike isn’t bad.
The Ethan Pond Trail will cut off to the right and the is a sign pointing to Ripley Falls. The trail we followed then was the Arethusa – Riley Trail. The trail has erosion, so rocks and roots were to be expected. As soon as you hear water falls, you are at Ripley Falls.
The hike is only a ½ mile one way, but offers a lot of bang for the buck. The hike should be fine for families, just keep an eye on the children.
We posted a video of the falls for anyone interested in seeing the falls or the hike itself.
