 10-14-06 Osceolas
Date(s) Hiked: 10/14/06

Trails(s) Hiked: Mount Osceola Tr

Total Distance: 8.4 RT

Difficulty: Moderate to Osceola, more difficult to E Osceola

Conditions: Icy above 3700'

Special Required Equipment: Typical Fall arsenal.

Trip Report:

This was Hike #1 of a 3 hike "marathon" Saturday.

Started this bad boy at 4:33 in the morning. It was VERY easy getting to Osceola, but East Osceola is a bit tougher. Stealthy ice clung to rocks. Views were great.

Full report/pictures here:

Definately the easiest hike I've done in the Whites. Tripoli rd closes soon so if you want to do it the way I did do it soon!

So, did you take the chimney or the bypass? Our group skipped it (it was full out winter at the time and the chimney was nothing but a chunk oy ice.) Guess I need to get back there and give it a go!

You must be talking about the real step 80 degree or so rock climb? If so yes I took the chimney -- as in I climbed it, however when I was heading to E Osceola I bypassed it becasue the common trail led to the bypass and I had no idea there was a big rock climb there. Probably would have climbed down it if I knew!!!

Oh it sure was :) It was very unexpected seeing that the Osceolas was a -really- easy hike then you have THAT popping quite literally out of nowhere. I would almsot say the ladders on willey were more fun, especially seeing that I would have never in a million years have expected them!
