 12/28 Carrigain
Members of the Brutus Brigade, headed up by Vice Commander Dwyer, made the seasonal trip to Carrigain. We found the road plowed, but gated, as there is logging going on somewhere passed the Signal Ridge trailhead. Of course, this made barebooting the 2 mile road walk extremely easy.

Once at the trailhead, we found snowshoe tracks, possible from late last week. We took the bushwhack route, just on the other side of the bridge, to avoid any potential water crossing problems, for pups Sammy & Jackson. The well traveled woods wanderer Drewski lead the way in this short section. There was a thin breakable crust layer, but the snow had compacted from Monday's storm, and we made good time up to approx. 3 miles on the trail. Along the upper reaches of the trail, once again, the small softwoods are bending and falling across the trail - sigh. But,
we brought along one folding saw, so we took turns clearing the way.

Despite the encroaching cloud cover, we had fantastic views far & wide, and we took turns at "name that peak". Most of us climbed the tower at the summit, but Sammy & Jackson wouldn't cross the grate decking inbetween the stair sections, and needed a little reassurance that those that did would return to the ground in a little while.

This Winter summit was # 41 for Leann, #35 for Pat, #19 for Jeff and # 4 for Andrew ~ Whoopie :)

Glad to learn that the road walk is e-z. I'm planning to hike it soon. Cath did the winter 48. Twice in one winter. Sweet!
