First Trip Report - Mount Chocorua and Camel's Hump
2 weekends, 2 mountains. This is my first trip report. Headed out Saturday May 30th for a trek up the Piper Trail with KTDubs on Mount Chocorua. Probably around 70 degrees when headed out. Stayed at Terrace Pines in Center Ossipee the night before and got there a little later than expected at 10:45am; paid our 3$ and headed out. Trail was a little soggy at the bottom and very buggy but as we headed up got a little better. Made it to some amazing ledges at about 12:15 approximately and then about another half hour after some scrambling reached the summit. There was good amount of people, maybe 25, at the summit. Great views of Mount Washington and the rest of the Presidentials. About 20 min after we got to the summit a huge rain storm over took the summit of Mount Washington and completely vanished it. Really amazing how you could see the rain bands moving across the range. Hung a few more minutes and began our descent. Returned to camp for a well-deserved Corona, camp fire and smores!

This weekend, June 6th I was helping a friend get up to South Royalton, VT to move out of school there. Since we were going to be up there we decided to take down Camel’s Hump. Having never hiked in Vermont I was pretty excited to explore. We headed up route 89 at 9:30 and hit the trail at 10:15 after stopping for a quick breakfast and supplies. Pretty impressive looking mountain on the drive in, it was about 75 degrees as we pulled into the parking lot. There were about 15 cars already there so we weren’t expecting much company. We started up the Monroe trail at 10:30ish to no bugs and a really nice shaded canopy. I couldn’t believe how green everything was, incredible forest. Not sure what time we made it to the trail merge about .6 miles from the summit but took some time there to check out the summit from afar and the 3 other trails that merged there including the Long Trail. On the ascent you cross this incredible ridge that looks out toward Lake Champlain and you enter the alpine zone. We took the summit and it was perfect blue bird skies. The views or Champlain, Burlington and I think Mount Mansfield were great. Really steep ledges and amazing alpine grass on the top. There were about 10 people on top and few dogs. We headed back down after lunch. Saw a lot of people coming up as we headed down. When we got back down dropped the top on the Jeep and had a great ride back to Boston.
