Post subject:  Where's Keyz56?

I guess you've been wondering where I've been. I’m sad to say that Margaret was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy. Man does that suck!!! She’s in so much pain….I don’t know what to do for her. What I have been doing is staying with her a lot. I’m still hiking and climbing mountains about twice a week that I've done already, (why write a double trip report?). I’m staying close to home in-case she needs me. She’s been hurting since last June, when she fell during a hike. She hurt her left leg and foot. From then on, she just couldn't get better. She can’t even walk balanced. We tried everything…physical therapy, seeing doctors, but it was her Neurologist that found out the real problem. Muscular Dystrophy is something that usually happens to males we were told. Isn’t it just her luck that she’s one out of the fewer that got this?
Anyway, I guess I won’t be on the board that much. I’m giving ALL my time into helping my wife….wouldn't you if it was your spouse?! So please send some helping vibes, prayers, or just fingers crossed that she can get through this. I’ll be around every now and then, but not that much. I miss you guys and this place so much!!!

Joey

Hey Joey! We'll keep the BOTH of you in our prayers, thoughts, etc. Because you will need it, too. Make sure you take care of yourself, too!

You know all the relatively flat, nicely graded places (like the Lincoln Woods Trail)? Maybe if there are some nearby, when you get a warm sunny day and the trails are free of snow and mud, maybe you could take Margaret out to something suitable (i.e. wheelchair accessible or o.k. for crutches). Maybe a few hours in the sun would be a diversion.

Remember, even if you don't post often, a lot of people will be thinking of the two of you!

Sorry to hear that Joey. I can't even imagine how hard it must be on both of you to go through this. At least they know what's going on now and can try and manage it as best as possible. Lots of scenic rides around the northeast if she likes to ride in a car. Sunshine and fresh air and all the interesting sites out there could be great for her spirits too, but I guess everyone is different. I know is like it if I couldn't hike. Stay strong and when you have time chime in here. It's might be a great diversion from the real world once in a while for you.

Hi Guys. This is a total freaking nightmare man!! We were told so many things until she was tested. Her physical therapist was the first one to mention MD to me because Margaret can't walk without being off balanced. She's using a cane now. We are being set up for class's on how to manage MD, but it still has us shocked.

It's 4:30am and I'm going to Dunbarton to hike. It's only 15 minutes from my house. I'll be home by the time Margaret wakes up. I did tell her last night I was going. I hate to sound like this, but this is also hard on me. Those class's will help me to deal and take care of Margaret without it totally changing my life too. But I feel so guilty!! The thing is, you guys know of my health issues...I NEED to keep in motion. That was one of the beauty's about hiking...I was in motion. Thank God for Kathy and her friend Drew....they gave me 3 big forests in Dunbarton to hike at. I can always be home before 10 or 11am.

Thanks for being concerned guys. I'll keep you posted.

Joey

The best thing you can do for Margaret is to take care of yourself. You will be of no help to her if you aren't feeling good. Stay close to home, but get out there for your well being.
Will be thinking about you and praying things go ok. Great idea to take her out for some great rides and scenery. Take care

You know when you get on a plane and they tell you to put on your oxygen first and then help your kids? Make sure you do go on those walks! That's YOUR oxygen mask.

Just dropping by to say thank you to the ones that sent there best wishes for my wife. Her hiking days are over. She's kinda cool with it....I'd be a friggin wreak!
She's seeing a Neurologist and Pain Management doctor. MD hurts a lot! Good thing is, she's at the beginning stages of it. (If we can find something good about it.)

I've been hiking. Not as much, but enough. I have some great video of Blue Herons and the babies growing up on, "Dunbarton Hikes" https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCWFO2A ... Ka2z8Jc1Kg

Anyway....just wanted to say hi. Hope everyone is OK.

Hey Joey! Thanks for checking in! I know some of us have been in touch with you and Margaret, but it's nice of you to let the rest of the gang know what's going on. I thought about you guys last night, I was walking by the Charles River in Watertown (Prema was at an activity near by) and there were three herons. I was watching them with a biking couple. None of us have ever seen their babies, so I told them about your video.

Glad to see you back! I know you've been more active on YouTube lately, but it's great that you're checking in on Hike-NH every now and then. Keep on doing what you're doin', and best wishes to you and your family.

Glad to hear you two are making the best of a bad situation Joey. Some of us know how to get to your YouTube stuff but maybe link the videos in the Wildlife page on here if you can dig it up. The baby herons are pretty cool. They are all over Durham Point right now too. Keep up the good work and stay strong.

Hi Guys!

I thought I’d let you know what’s happening here. Margaret’s doing OK. It’s just doctors and tests that kinda dampen things. We know what’s wrong with her and where she’s at with it. She’s actually pretty cool about the whole thing. She’s a real trooper. I think she’s getting tiered of me being around her so much, LOL. I’ve been doing my hiking, but I really haven’t been up to trip reports and stuff. Just making the YouTube videos seem to take a lot of time now.

As for those baby Blue Herons....I’ve been going to the same boggy pond about 1.05 into the forest at Kimball Ponds conservation area in Dunbarton. I feel like they’re my kids now. I’ve seen them from tiny little things to these big birds now. Look at these pictures! They’re ready to start flying very soon. I defiantly want to catch it on video....my kids. I’m heading there tomorrow to see what’s up. I’ll let ya know as soon as they fly.

Miss you all,
Joey
