 Chaga Mushroom
Chaga Mushroom
The Medicinal Mushroom of the North

I don’t know if any of you have heard of Chaga, but it grows like crazy up here in NH on Birch Trees. I’ve been drinking it for about 2 years and my blood pressure went down (no more Toprol XL), my cholesterol went down (no more Lipitor), and my skin looks better. I did talk to my family doctor about Chaga before using it, and he said it was safe and good for my overall body. Health food and vitamin stores sell this, but why buy it when it comes to us for free, up here?!
Anyone else use this?

 All over it K
I found out about it a few months ago and it has taken over most of my spare time since.

Here's the best link of the benefits I've found

http://www.chagamountain.com/health-benefits.html

I just made my first batch of tincture last week and another round coming this weekend.

I'm also working with co-workers to validate that inhaling the smoke from Chaga cures headaches.

Chaga also works great as a tinder with flint and steel

This stuff is as near to the prefect medicine as there is, IMHO of course.

If you want more info check out

The Cure is in the Forest by Dr. Cass Ingram

and in Sep. there's a new book coming out,

Chaga: King of the Medicinal Mushrooms by David Wolfe (Sep 11, 2012)

Found about 20 lbs of Chaga this afternoon. It's still on the tree but it's landmarked on my GPS.

I'm glad to see that someone else has heard of this. I was beginning to think you guys thought I was wacko! It really works, but ask your doctor first if you can use it. It might not mix with a medication you’re on. (Better safe than sorry) I have a few friends that I send this stuff to because it costs so much in places like GNC for them. I drink it as a tea. Like I said before, it took a while, but my cholesterol, blood pressure and a few other things in a blood panel test my doctor gave me went down or to a normal range. Go to GNC yourself and see if they sell it and if I’m BS’ing.....you'll be surprised at how highly the Tec there will talk about it and how lucky WE are to have it growing right here in our own forests. It only grows in the upper north-east of America, and a few places overseas. It's a bit of work preparing it as a tea, but it's worth it to me. I'm on less medication due to it and I feel great. My physical injuries can't be helped by it, but what the heck?!

I see my link on my first page doesn't work anymore.
That's because my hiking page now has a domain name.
It's: http://www.joes-hiking-photos.com
You can find some pictures of Chaga is at this link: http://s1243.photobucket.com/user/JoeR1 ... ooms/Chaga

 Chaga Mushroom
I am aware that chaga extract and such can be purchased from various sources however my girlfriends father has severe cancer that has spread to his liver. He firmly believes that he needs fresh chaga mushroom to cure his illness. I realize this notion is impractical however I wish to harvest the mushroom if nothing more to at least inspire hope to a man with not much time left. If someone could please post a specific park, or landmark, in NH or ME where they have found the mushroom and where I could find it as well I would be truly grateful.

Needchaga1434

Find a small stream, that has Hemlocks and silver birches. Chaga likes areas where the dampness is held in. It grows on all birches but in those hemlocks look for the silvers.

It's not hard to find. I have over 140 conks benchmarked on my GPS.

Take a hatchet and a chisel with you and cut it up/grind it before it drys.

Earlier this fall we were descending from Lonesome Lake and met a Russian and his dad collecting mushrooms (which are popular in Russia). They had a grocery bag full of them. I'm not sure what kind they were.

Thank you Beckie and Prema Image

Hey guys…sorry the link for Ghaga doesn’t work. I must have changed the name way back.
Here’s a new link, with a slide show: http://s1243.photobucket.com/user/JoeR1 ... ooms/Chaga

And here’s the new link to my page: http://s1243.photobucket.com/user/JoeR1 ... ooms/Chaga

Needchaga1434, Chaga can be found mostly on Birch trees. Anywhere in the north-east. A thick forest of Birch will do. You just have to look really hard to find them. Be careful ....some look like them, but they aren't. (The first picture on my page is a good one) Chaga has a hard black, coffee grind texture. Inside of them is a yellowish cake. You can use all of the mushroom, but you must dry it out first, and then break it up with a hammer. You'll need a sharp hand axe to chop it off the tree. Google on how to make a tea out of it, and, "ASK YOUR DOCTOR FIRST BEFORE USING IT"! I send a lot of it to my friend down in Florida. She says it costs $$$$. So I send it to her for free.

 Re: Chaga Mushroom
What a great set of posts on this topic. People are selling chaga all over Craigs List. I live in Concord and would like to go chaga harvesting in my area perhaps north into the lakes region. I would prefer not to wander around the white mountains. Seems like the posts say chaga is everywhere but I look every day in the Concord area and have found none. Can everyone share where chaga can be found south of the white mountains? Thanks, Jon

 Re: Chaga Mushroom
Hi Jon. (Sorry, I just noticed your post) If you're looking on trails for it, forget about finding any. People grab any they see fast. There's a lot I've noticed off the Smartts Brook Trail in Waterville Valley. You do have to bushwhack a bit in any area with Birch. It's there...I see it a lot, but I don't use it anymore. Just be careful when chopping it off the trees. I've seen some nasty big holes in some of the trees. You can slice it off without hurting the tree.

*ASK YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE USING CHAGA*

 Re: Chaga Mushroom
What I see about Chaga is, mixed opinion. Some say that Chaga trees are found in Russia, some say China and some say Canada, so I'm totally confused about it.
